Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales : Movie Review

The fifth installment of the Pirates franchise has landed ashore. I rarely hold onto too much hope when going to see a movie franchise this far into sequels, and if had of believed a lot of early reviews, I may not have bothered at all.
Filmed in Australia (whilst Depp was busy smuggling dogs), Dead Men Tell No Tales or POTCDMTNT for short, is a movie that fans of the series will enjoy. It has Jack Sparrows' normal alcohol driven comedy relief, mixed in with a story of pirate treasure and adventure. It's the corner stone of the series, but how much longer can they keep the public's interest.

The film for me was definitely a step back in the right direction after On Stranger Tides underwhelmed me, but if Disney leaves too much of a gap before the rumoured final movie (like the 6 years they left between the last 2 installments), I'm not sure the cinema going public will swallow the content so easy. Look out for an unsuspected cameo by Jack's uncle and the debut in the franchise of the beautiful Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) and sit back and enjoy this film for what it is, a good afternoon at the movies.

The real question now is, what does Michael Bolton think?

My Rating: Better than On Stranger Tides - 6.5 out of 10
