Money Monster : Movie Review

Money Monster is a new movie by director Jodie Foster starring Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney and Julia Roberts. As shown in the trailer to the film, the plot revolves around a young man Kyle Budwell (O'Connell) taking a financial advice TV show hostage, after an investment company that the shows host Lee Gates (Clooney) vouches for as a "good investment" experiences a glitch where money disappears, and suddenly Budwells and many others hard earned investment become worthless.

Money Monster
The real standout in this movie is Jack O'Connell who plays Kyle Budwell the hostage taker. His performance carries this movie through some pretty loose story line and plot that seems a little under par. O'Connell pulls you into the despair of his characters situation and engages you into the story.

I can see where this movie intended on going with it's undertones, especially given the flaws and what 'Joe Public' would consider downright fraudulent activity that is carried on everyday by the worlds financial sector without an eyebrow raised. The premise was good, I just felt like the script was rushed and unpolished with opportunities to explore avenues of plot which are touched on, but never really go anywhere. Clooney and Roberts both deliver work-able performances, the movie is palatable and with those 2 at the helm it will probably make it's money back, but for the everyday film goer, is that enough these days.

My Rating: I would suggest this more for people at home watching a Blu-ray or DVD - 5.5 out of 10
